  • I can totally empathise. @JoeDale came to do an in-school cpd session when I was appointed 3 years ago. So why am I not a fully ict-integrated MFL teacher when I have 13 desktops in my classroom?

    • Hi Sarah,

      Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I have to say, being just “up the road” from you in Linwood I find it frustrating that a lot of things you are mentioning I wanted to do 3 years ago and 3 years down the line we still have no iPads in class (as hoped), still have an mp3/mobile phone/BYOD ban in classes, still don’t have access to the WiFi for personal devices, can’t get any GAFE products due to security protocols in the authority. It’s hard not to get disillusioned! I have sneaked the odd QR code in, found ways around no BYOD or tablets, improvised on a shoestring but still feel like my ICT wings are somewhat clipped. What I will say, though, is don’t give up! It will change one day. We have an obligation to deliver 21st Century learning methodologies to 21st Century learners if we want to equip them to thrive in the future workforce.

      Also, just as a wee aside, I was devastated to note the demise of Zondle (check the website). Hoping it will one day be resurrected.

      All the best,

      @macfloss

      No in-school ICT support is a challenge as are firewalls and the fact that different websites/apps/storage aren’t compatible. Just waiting for the (android) tablets to be fully set-up so fingers crossed… But it does you good to be re-energised every now and then to give you the renewed strength to persevere.
      And now I finally know who the ever-informative @macfloss is! Thanks Katrina. Sarah
